Build Your Personal Brand using Linkedin.com Q&A

Linkedin Q&A. On the home page in the upper center there is a “Answers” button. You will see 20 question categories and each has a number of subcategories. You can ask and answer for hours it is addictive and very informative. Cannot remember the question your friend said you should answer. If your friend wrote it, you see it on their profile. My friend Susan today showed one current question and I could click on the link to see the question and maybe choose to answer the question. I can see that she has expertise in three different areas (remember the question categories) and three best answers in four best answers in the other. I can also see all of her questions and answers.

Founder of OnlineBuisnessNetworker.com, Flyn Penoyer has this to say about Linkedin’s question section “I firmly believe that one of the best (and least utilized) tools on LinkedIn is the Question & Answer forum. By answering questions in the Q&A forum, I’ve had many people tell me they found my answer helpful and asked me to join their network. Now that’s a quality connection!” A brand building bonanza, these questions and answers can be.

Yes, the Answers feature of Linkedin is very, very powerful. I have met wonderful connections through this forum. I have been able to help many and have been helped by many.

The important thing is to answer as many questions as you can and really do your best to help other members. Don’t hold back! Simply give your time and energy to assist them with their problem, survey, etc.

When you need help in an area be as specific as you can. Do not misuse this forum though and “ask” questions just to promote. That is frowned upon and is dishonest.

Enjoy Answers! You’ll learn a lot and help other learn as well!

    Laura,
Thanks for adding your knowledge to the conversation. You are one of my favorite Q&A folks.

    Great topic Jim.

I’ve enjoyed two really valuable things from the Question & Answer section in Linked In. The first seems fairly basic…I have gotten some very good answers to some very real questions I was dealing with. It is great to get responses from people with the range of experience in Linked In…people whom I would most likely never have the chance to hear from otherwise.

The second value I’ve seen in using the Q&A section is the range of responses I’ve gotten. They represent a very wide range of perspectives and opinions. Whether I agree with each response, or find every response something I can actually apply, the range of answers has led me to thinking about the questions in some very new and different ways.

    It’s a great resource.

    Thanks again,

    John

The Q&A section on LinkedIn is a powerful site. Not only can you answer questions or ask questions, if need be; but it is a great way to showcase your expertise. The person asking the question can decide if your answer is the best on for their question.

As all of us are working online, we need to establish a reputation so why not showcase our expertise, be known as knowledgeable, friendly and helpful and build trust with the readers?

I love this feature and totally agree with Flyn that this is a great way to make powerful connections!

Thanks Jim, for making this post available!

I’ve connected with some amazing writers and editors through LinkedIn’s Q&A section, and it gives me an opportunity to give back to my professional community in a very personal way. It’s an amazing resource. Thank you, Jim, for spreading the word!

I want to schedule time to use this more. One feature I like about the Q&A is you can also reply privately to people asking the questions. I have found that after I give a totally YOU (other) focused answer and reply to ask to connect with people I want to have in my contacts, that they always do reply back YES. Just a good side benefit besides being helpful.
